An unintentional New Year's OBE attempt

January 1, 2010

Wow, a nice way to start the new year, the old-time vibrations and an attempted OBE on Day 1 of the new year -- woot!

The setup

I spent new year's eve alone, so I drank some champagne starting at around 7pm while I called several friends and family members to wish them well. The last call ended around 10:15pm, and after watching a little tv, I was in bed by 11pm. I woke up briefly when I heard the neighbors celebrating the new year, and went right back to sleep.

Besides the champagne starting at 7pm, my diet was very poor all day, as I ate a variety of sweet foods, and in fact, I can't think of anything "healthy" I ate all day. (I admit, I was a little depressed about being alone, and a few other things, and took it out on the food.)

As a final note, I also exercised lightly from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

The attempted OBE

I woke up at several points during the night because the room temperature was at a weird point where it was a little too warm for covers, and too cold not to have covers. At one point I woke up and was quite awake, and when I realized I wasn't going back to sleep right away, I knew the conditions were ripe for an OBE.I really didn't care though, just wanted to go back to sleep.

In my effort to just go back to sleep I relaxed very quickly, but I didn't fall asleep, and I started bouncing back and forth between dreamland and being awake. If you've ever been in this state, you know that you hear noises as you fall asleep. It's something like a "Pffftt" noise, but that doesn't really do it any justice, because there's both this noise as well as the change in consciousness. Your awareness is switching back and forth between the outside world and the inside world, and as you bounce back and forth between these states, you hear sound ("Pffftt" doesn't do it justice), along with your awareness bouncing in and out between the two worlds.

This went on for a little while, combined more vibrations than I've felt in a long time, but when the vibrations happened I wasn't able to get out of the physical body. I finally ended up in a very clear dream. I was in another bed, and I think it was in the house I grew up in, or something like that. As I laid there, I was trying to figure out what was real, and what wasn't, and at one point I was able to open my eyes back here in the physical world, and think "Okay, I'm really still in an apartment in Louisville, and this is some sort of dream", and I went back to the dream.

In the dream, I was listening to a discussion between two men -- an interview -- and one man said he had just come back from Germany. He said the people there were very nice, but very matter-of-fact, very cool, or indifferent. Just at the end of the conversation the name "Ray Heffner" was mentioned. I don't know the spelling of the last night there, I'm just guessing at it, and I also don't know anyone by this name.

I never did have the OBE here, though the vibrations were as strong as they ever were. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact order of the events, but I believe they went like this:

More lucid dreams

Just after I heard the Ray Heffner name, the conversation went away, and the room was silent for a few moments. Then I heard some footsteps come in the room, and when I turned my head in my dream bed, I looked over and saw my wife standing there, holding some documents. I told her I was a little busy with this OBE and lucid dream stuff, and I asked something like "Are you real?". She looked and me, and said she would just come back later.

After she left, an old-time phone rang three times, but I didn't get out of bed to get it. When it quit ringing I got curious and got out of bed. Stepping out of my room, I could hear my wife talking on the phone, and she was talking about her work with someone, a person I assumed was one of her co-workers. I was amazed someone would call at this time of night to talk about work, and then I decided to walk downstairs for some reason.

(At this point I think I had reverted from a lucid, controllable dream back to a semi-normal dream.)

The downstairs area was also like the house I grew up in, but different. The areas were larger, and the windows were different, and the lighting different. I looked downstairs for some of my dogs, wondering where they were, but I wasn't looking for the dogs that are currently alive; I was looking for dogs that had passed away years ago.

After this I woke up, made some notes about this experience, and went back to bed.

Even more lucid dreams

Later in the morning, around 8am, I had another long sequence of lucid dreams, an action-adventure sequence about saving the planet, lol. There was a little bit of low-level flying, but much more metal-bending and PK activity. It also featured my two oldest sisters, two current dogs, a female cousin D, and an old male friend D (from VA).
