The Providence Zen Center residency program

August 13, 2011

I'm not sure if they'll take me, but I'm very seriously considering the Providence Zen Center residency program. If I understand it correctly, this program will allow me to live at the Zen Center with other students, while still keeping a full-time job in the outside world. I don't know that to be fact, but I think it's correct.

If so, I think this program would be very good for me. I could use the discipline of a lifestyle like this, in a community that I assume is like-minded individuals. (I'm not referring to OBEs when I say that, just Zen, and the teachings of Zen Master Seung Sahn (ZMSS).)

There's not much else to say right now, other than this is something I'm considering. I sent them an email this morning to learn more about the residency program. After that I'd have to find a job in the area, not to mention the cross-country move.

I'm pretty flexible about where I live, so that's not really a big concern for me. The big concerns are (a) finding work, and (b) learning whether I can live with this much discipline in my life. I think ZMSS would say that I'm attached to freedom, and while living a life with a regular schedule would probably be very good for me, it would also be hard for my freedom attachment.
