Best practices for having lucid dreams and out of body experiences

June 18, 2017

I try to look at the things I do with lucid dreams and out of body experiences from a scientific and engineering standpoint: How can I prove (or disprove) these things are real? How can I make them repeatable? How can I help other people experience these things?

I don’t consider myself a religious person, but the “best practices” that make these things repeatable are all things that people might consider spiritual: Take care of the body (“purify” the body), including being mindful of what, when, and how much you eat, and practicing yoga (with full-body awareness); meditate; be mindful throughout the day; express gratitude; live from the heart.

(Sadly, that whole “abstinence” thing is also helpful. I’ve always assumed that’s why priests are supposed to remain celibate. Ram Dass writes about “transmuting” this energy up the spine and into the higher chakras “in the service of becoming enlightened.”)
