Stomach ailment
The medical problem I've had for the last 3-4 weeks that has prompted one trip to an immediate care center and a second trip to the ER has centered around something that's gone wrong with my stomach.
My stomach seems to be rejecting the rest of my body, and food, so I've managed to lost 17 pounds during this time, just because I can't eat. My diet lately consists of crackers, chicken broth, and Gatorade. Any time I try to add anything else to the mix, I end up with more stomach pain.
How to throw a changeup
And now for something completely different ... back in high school I was a decent baseball pitcher, so ... here's my "How to throw a changeup tutorial", written by yours truly.
As I mention in that tutorial, a changeup can be a devastating pitch, and also one that you can throw through the strike zone. I could write about this forever, so in an effort to stop, please just go visit that article, lol.
Hide Your Desktop - a Mac OS X app
I normally stay away from writing about my programming life here, but I'm pretty happy with the "Hide Your Desktop" (and desktop icons) application I've written, so I thought I'd give it a plug here. In short, it's a $0.99 app for Mac OS X systems that lets you hide your desktop, so you can focus entirely on your foreground application.
Google Chrome for OS X, browser usage statistics, and MacBook skins
I need to get back here and write more about my experiences intentionally sleep-walking this week (thta's not really an accurate description, but it will have to do), but in the meantime, here are a few links to what I've been very busy writing about lately. Here are some of my latest articles over on the devdaily.com website:
A friend reports on Champion Farms crime (Champion Farms apartment crime)
A friend of mine wrote this story about crime at the Champion Farms apartment complex in Louisville, Kentucky, and all I can say is "move out, asap". Your own safety and security is more important than trying to save a few dollars. Break your lease, and get out.
First migraine of 2009
Argh, my first migraine of 2009 tonight. After running errands all day, including taking Zeus to the vet, I decide to get a coffee at Starbucks, and while waiting for the coffee, I know the migraine is coming. I crash at 5pm, and wake up near midnight, still with a little pain, and my hands shaking.
A Zen book for children for Christmas
If you're in the market for a Zen book for a child, teenager, or anyone young at heart, "Zen Master Raven: Sayings and Doings of a Wise Bird" by Robert Aitken is one of my favorites. The "chapters" are very short, 1-2 pages at most, and usually include a sketch of one of the animals in the story line.
Here's part of the product description from Amazon.com:
Newspaper ad with Terry
Most recent dream. Sitting at a table with Terry (brother-in-law), looking through a newspaper ad. It's a 10-12 page ad, big like a newspaper. As I'm flipping from page to page the first time through it's all about chocolate, and the last page has a big peanut butter cup ad. I mention that to Terry, and as I flip through it again, there are ads on pages, they show up magically ... they're mostly DQ ads.
Vibrations end in stomach pain
This morning, just before 12:45am, I had a bout of those "You're about to have an OBE" vibrations. Unfortunately they ended with a pain in my stomach, and no OBE (out of body exerience). I tried to relax when the vibrations kicked in, but it was to no avail, it was just going to be one of those stomach cramp times.
Here are the notes I made following the vibration episode:
A dying bird on the road
Today gets to be remembered as the day that I drove over a bird on the road as it was fighting for its own life, and rapidly losing that battle.
