Yoga Resources

I'm in absolutely no position to recommend Yoga books, as I have only read a few, but I'll be glad to share what little I know here.

In terms of Yoga training, practicing the poses, and trying to get them right, I believe "Light on Yoga" by B.K.S. Iyengar is considered a classic in the field. I often thumb through it as I practice various poses, and want to make sure I'm doing them right.

OBE Resources

Introduction

I don't own very many books on astral projection and out of body experiences (OBE's), mostly because they quickly get into areas I'm not personally interested in at this time, including theories about planes of existence, Akashic Records, saving souls, etc. (I'll be more than happy to work on saving souls later, when I'm convinced all of this is real.)

Zen Resources

If you're interested in Zen, I heartily recommend the following books, more or less in the order shown.

Basic requirements

Dropping Ashes on the Buddha, by Zen Master Sung Sahn (ZMSS). This is generally a collection of letters between ZMSS and his students, essentially a teaching of Zen by postal mail. A great introduction.

Zen Training, by Katsuki Sekida. Discusses the physical practice of Zen, including how to sit, breathe, and maintain your posture.

Levitating in a business office

After that dream, I end up in the fancy office of a much older man. There are books all around the office. The chairs are leather, the desks are wood. It's an older office of a financial man, maybe a lawyer.

The man wants to talk to me about a business agreement. I don't know if he wants to hire me, or have me write some software ...

Zen books as Christmas gifts

If you're looking for a book or two for a budding Zen student, you can't go wrong with these two books from Katsuki Sekida:

  • Zen Training
  • Two Zen Classics: The Gateless Gate and the Blue Cliff Records

Mr. Sekida has a unique East/West perspective that he brings to these books. The first book discusses how to train yourself in Zen, including posture, breathing, and an introduction to koans. In the second book he helps to translate two classics of Zen literature.
