Einstein on interdependence

June 29, 2009

Every once in a while you run into a quote that is just right for your frame of mind, and this quote from Albert Einstein really hit me today:

"A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labours of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received."

I'll guess that Einstein didn't have the Buddhist concept of interdependence in mind when he said or wrote that, but it's a pretty good definition. Just add in things like sun, gravity, air, and water, and that nails it very well.

In my personal life, when it comes to things like OBE's, I think of Robert Monroe, and other people like him that have come before me. And in a simpler sense, when I create a website like this one, I think that I couldn't have created these things without so many people before me that it is truly humbling.
