There are days when I have lucid dreams that I can easily believe there are alternate universes. Today is one of those days.
I've been sick lately, with the stomach flu or something like it, so I took off from work most of the day yesterday and again today. Around noon today I laid down, and very soon found myself in another world, a world I know, and actually feel comfortable in.
In this other world I have an apartment of some sort, and today several repair/maintenance men were there to do work. First, there was a young man who didn't give me a comfortable feeling that he was any good. After he left, two older men came up -- two men I've known for a long time -- and they had to repair some part of the floor that I remembered they had worked on before. When they walked in they saw that the younger man had left a little mess, and while they didn't say anything, they shook their heads in a disapproving way.
As I began speaking to them, I realized my voice sounded very weird. It may have sounded okay to them, I don't know, but to me it sounded very unusual. So I said to them, "Forgive me if my voice sounds a little weird, I'm actually asleep right now". The two men looked at me funny, so I said, "Don't worry about it, I'm fine. Why are you guys here?"
At this point they showed me an area of the floor leading to the outside that needed some work. As one man began working on the floor, the other one who was standing asked if I knew anything about "mechanics". Unfortunately, as the man spoke, I woke up ... my stomach was telling me it was time to wake up.
Time in the alternate universe
The amazing thing about this other world is that it seems to go on just fine without me. Whenever I rejoin it, it's not like picking up right where I left off, it's like time has passed there just like it has here. A long time ago these men did some repair work in this apartment, and then again today they came back to do something else.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again here: If this is just the imagination of my physical brain, wow, I'm impressed.
