Deep funk (depression)

July 3, 2014

As I am wont to do once or twice a year, I am currently in a deep depression. I’m treating it as I usually do: I listen to the most depressing songs I can find until after a few days I think, “Wow, this is pretty ridiculous”, at which point I snap out of it and get back to living.

In retrospect it’s amazing what I listened to last night. Here are just a few of the songs I can find on YouTube. Foolish Games, by Jewel:

Mad World, by Alex Parks:

C'est La Vie by Emerson, Lake, and Powell:

With One More Look At You (Watch Closely Now), Barbra Streisand:

Songbird, by Fleetwood Mac:

Thick as Thieves, Natalie Merchant:

It Can't Rain All The Time, Jane Siberry:

Nothing Compares 2U by Sinead O’Connor is also a great downer:

I could go on for a while, that’s only about one out of every five songs or so. Hopefully I’ll be out of this funk in a few days, but until then I’ll keep listening to this stuff. The only good thing I can say about these periods is that I always come out of them re-energized. I guess it’s like being bi-polar, but only once or twice a year.
